Biography

Research

I work in the field of supportive care and cancer, which aims to alleviate symptoms of cancer and side effects of treatment (e.g., chemotherapy). There are more cancer survivors now than ever, and long-term ailments such as cancer-related fatigue, cardiotoxicity, and neuropathy, do not have adequate treatments. I conduct clinical trials to test nutritional interventions, for example the Mediterranean Diet, to prevent or treat these symptoms. I also explore metabolism and mitochondrial function as factors in the etiology and pathophysiology of these symptoms. Understanding the mechanisms behind these symptoms will help us optimize interventions to allow cancer survivors to put to whole cancer experience behind them.
