Christine M. Papastamelos, M.D.

Professional Background

Christine Papastamelos completed a Bachelor of Arts in Art History at Boston College prior to attending Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. While in medical school, she explored the intersection between art and medicine and developed the organization Arts&Medicine, which sought to enhance patient care and medical education through creative programming and public service. She moved to Rochester, NY in 2019 to complete her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Rochester. Her medical training has guided her research interests in infectious diseases, specifically viral infections and their effect on allograft function and oncogenesis in solid organ transplant recipients. This research has led to her development of an interdisciplinary quality improvement program to promote timely cervical cancer screening and Gardasil administration in female transplant recipients receiving care at her institution. She is now a member of the Hospital Medicine Division at University of Rochester Medical Center. Additional academic interests lie in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and quality improvement with respect to suggested immunization of immunocompromised populations.
