The residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Rochester Medical Center is sponsored by Strong Memorial Hospital. The PMR residents spend the majority of their time at this facility and the outpatient locations that are a part of our system. Residents rotate at the Golisano Restorative Neurology & Rehabilitation Center, Unity Hospital, which is located approximately 12 miles away with readily available and accessible parking.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has benefited greatly from the recent market place changes in the community. It is fully supported by the University of Rochester Medical Center to serve as an integrated delivery system within the multi-county region. Clinically, PMR includes the region's largest physical therapy and occupational therapy services, a growing outpatient physician practice and a 20-bed acute rehabilitation unit located at Strong Memorial Hospital. We are proud to be CARF-accredited for General rehabilitation, Pediatrics, Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), and Stroke. We are the region’s only CARF-accredited SCI Systems of Care Center providing specialty spinal cord injury services including lifetime follow-up and intrathecal Baclofen pump technology.
Our ACGME accredited four-year categorical program has 12 residents, who come to us from all over the country. Many of our alumni stay in Rochester and at the University as Fellows and then faculty. Our department has several alumni who are now faculty, Medical directors, and Fellowship directors. The Department’s Chair and Residency Program Director is herself a proud graduate of our program. The diverse interests of our faculty have also lead to the development of several other specialty services, including concussion, ultrasound guided injections, Botox, amputee and musculoskeletal clinics, and electrodiagnostic clinic services.
