Stroke Rehabilitation Program

Our Rehabilitation unit provides the region with comprehensive rehabilitative stroke care to patients of all ages thru the continuum of care.  Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (ICARE) are the principles of our CARF accredited stroke program. The Joint Commission has awarded Strong Memorial Hospital the certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center in 2014. This recognition makes Strong Memorial Hospital only one of three Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers in the state, and one of 67 in the country. Over 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke every year, including nearly 3,000 patients in the greater Rochester area.  The Stroke Service at URMC admits over 1,000 patients each year with cerebrovascular disease in its role as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC). Partnering with the department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Endovascular surgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation takes pride in providing the rehabilitative care the patients need after a major disabling condition. Our care has been acknowledged by several satisfied patients.

Stroke is the leading cause of disability, resulting in paralysis, sensory impairment, swallowing problems, loss of communication skills and disruption of a person's physical, psychological and social health.

Our rehabilitation team and its Patient & Family centered care is dedicated to working closely with you to assist in regaining the highest level of independence possible to improve your quality of life. Our interdisciplinary team of specialists in stroke rehabilitation will provide a comprehensive treatment based on the most up to date evidence based treatments. Tailored to yours and your family’s goals for rehabilitation, we provide you with an individualized treatment program designed to improve your function to return to your community.
