Prostate Cancer Treatment Decisions

Patients and healthcare providers confront difficult decisions every day. Available healthcare screening and diagnostic tests and treatment options are steadily increasing. The result is that for many conditions, there is no single option that is clearly better than all others. Rather, multiple potential management options exist that have different combinations of advantages and disadvantages. Consequently, many healthcare decisions require making a series of trade-offs between the advantages and disadvantages of several alternatives.

Decision making under these circumstances is challenging under normal circumstances. It is even more difficult in healthcare settings where choices affecting a person’s health and well being frequently are emotionally charged and need to be made in a short period of time.

Our group at the University of Rochester is exploring ways to help patients and healthcare providers make better decisions when facing difficult choices. For information about us, current and past studies, click on the links provided on the left side of this page.
