Welcome from the Chair

Dr. Yuhchyau ChenThe Department of Radiation Oncology has helped many people beat cancer through state-of-the-art radiation technology.

We are one of the nation’s leaders in advanced radiation technology, allowing us to deliver precision radiation while minimizing radiation side effects to the surrounding normal tissue by dynamic shielding and beam-shaping capabilities.

Our high-quality radiation facility includes:

  • CT Simulator and Treatment Planning System with Image Fusion Capabilities (MRI, CT, PET/CT)
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
  • Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)
  • Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
  • Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)
  • Respiratory cycle gated chest radiotherapy (4D RT)
  • Trilogy Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy for SBRT, IMRT, IGRT, and 4D RT
  • Ethos Adaptive Radiotherapy

Each different technology offers unique features to best target individual types of cancer. The Department of Radiation Oncology at URMC has been recognized by our patients for the following:

Our radiation oncologists are certified by the American Board of Radiology to practice radiation oncology. Many of them specialize in specific disease sites, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, brain tumors, lung cancer, head & neck tumors, pediatric cancers, lymphomas, sarcomas and gastrointestinal cancer. Our doctors bring years of specialized experience to the treatment of your cancer.

Our doctors, physicists, therapists, nurses, scientists, and other professionals have made it their life’s work to provide cancer patients with highly advanced and compassionate care as well as research in cancer and radiation biology.

Our cancer patients are highly satisfied by the care received here. We consistently receive high Press-Ganey survey scores.

We have stringent quality assurance processes to assure high quality radiation and precision through our standard operation procedures. We participate in national radiation therapy protocol studies. We also design innovative protocols to test new treatment strategies.

I am very proud to work with such an experienced, knowledgeable and devoted team of cancer care providers in this department. I hope you find our web site helpful and you will feel absolutely confident that there is no better place for your care.
