In celebration of World AIDS Day the University of Rochester Center for AIDS Research hosted a scientific symposium featuring a discussion of HIV vaccine research, research posters by students and post-doctoral fellows training at UR, and an award for a longtime HIV/AIDS physician and community advocate.

Two new cases of H7N9 bird flu were reported in China in October. With funding from the National Institutes of Health, the University’s Vaccine Research Unit is testing a new vaccine candidate in case H7N9 makes its way to the U.S.

A new vaccine for norovirus – the microbe behind most cases of what people commonly call stomach flu – protected patients against severe vomiting and diarrhea. URMC was one of five study sites that enrolled patients and tested the experimental vaccine.
