Applying IBM Watson to Care and Research

Jun. 19, 2013

IBM WatsonWhile IBM Watson is best known as a dominating contestant on the quiz show Jeopardy!, the supercomputer also has a bright future in the field of clinical care and research.

The same capacity to interpret queries in natural language, instantaneously sift through large sets of unstructured data, and come up with statistically ranked responses that enabled Watson to successfully answer questions about literature, popular culture, geography, and history can be harnessed to assist scientists and physicians with complex diagnoses and research problems.

Representatives of IBM and the University of Rochester will gather at URMC on July 28, 2013 for a set of keynotes and panel discussions about Watson and to explore potential collaborations between the two institutions.
