Fitting Years into Minutes: Announcing the Three Minute Thesis Competition Winners
The Center for Professional Development in the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry held its second annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition this spring. The 3MT Challenge, which was founded by the University of Queensland in Australia, pushes Ph.D. students to boil years of grueling study into a three minute elevator talk for a general audience.
This year 34 graduate students from across the University of Rochester competed in 3MT for a chance to win up to $1,000 in travel awards. The top three presentations are below.
Thuy-vy Nguyen, graduate student in the department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology, won first place and a $750 travel award for her presentation on motivational aspects of solitude.
Scott Friedland, graduate student in the Genetics, Development, and Stem Cells Program, took second place and a $500 travel award for his presentation titled, “Pancreatic Cancer and the Tale of the Broken Librarian.”
Sarah Catheline, graduate students in the Pathways of Human Disease Program, won the $250 “People’s Choice” travel award for her presentation on osteoarthritis.
Congratulations to the winners and to all who competed!
