URThe University of Rochester has been ranked number eight in nation on a list of the top 10 life sciences research universities by the journal Nature Biotechnology

The report evaluates the impact of biomedical research based upon a university’s research enterprise (number and total amount of NIH grants) and commercialization activity (licenses, start-ups, and royalty revenue).

UR’s standing reflects $27 million in gross licensing revenue and 382 NIH grants worth $147 million received in 2013.

Other universities in the top 10 include the University of California system, the University of Washington, Columbia University, the University of Minnesota, New York University, Wake Forest University, Northwestern University, the University of Massachusetts, and Princeton University.
