URMC / Sleep Center / COVID-19 Notice

COVID-19 Notice

To the Greater Rochester Community:

Our providers have been receiving a number of questions about their sleep care in the setting of the coronavirus pandemic.

Good sleep is essential for good health. Sleep is critical for mental health and immune system functioning. These are challenging times, and sleep can be in short supply, but restful sleep is more important now than ever.

We have also been getting a number of questions about sleep apnea and CPAP/BiPAP. Guidelines are just emerging, and it is unclear if a PAP machine could be helpful or harmful in the case of COVID-19. If you have coronavirus, we agree with CDC guidelines and recommend that you isolate yourself from other people. This includes patients who are using their CPAP units.

We are also following the guidance of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine with regards to PAP machines during the pandemic.

Please know that the UR Sleep Center remains open during this public health crisis. Our providers are addressing our patients’ needs by telephone, by televideo, and increasingly in person. We have developed many creative solutions to help patients with sleep apnea and other sleep problems. We are happy to discuss these solutions with our established patients, as well as new patients to our practice. Please call us at (585) 341-7575 to schedule an appointment with any of our providers.

We value the community trust we have built over the years, and look forward to providing care to this community in this difficult time. We plan on updating the information on this page as often as is necessary.

With warmest wishes,

The UR Medicine Sleep Center Team
