The following resources are available to help enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion at URMC. Future seminar dates will be posted to this website as they become available. The Diversity Seminar Series presentations are eligible for up to 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

All faculty, fellows, residents, students and staff are welcome!

Request Diversity Education Training

  • ​Creating a Respectful and Inclusive Environment (Part 1) Unconscious Bias
    (Length 1hr) - Discusses the concept and existence of unconscious bias, in relation to race and ethnicity, using an evidence-based approach. Identifies strategies for minimizing participants own unconscious biases
  • Micro-aggressions and Ally-ship Understanding and Reacting (Part 2)
    (Length 1hr) - Describes ways in which participants can create a culture and climate that nurtures everyone to work towards their fullest potential. Identifying how implicit bias and micro-aggressions occur in academic contexts while learning Ally-ship and advocacy techniques.
  • Equitable Care to All: Health Disparities and Providing Culturally Sensitive and Responsive Care
    (Length 60-90 min) - Discusses the concepts of unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, privilege, ally-ship, and cultural humility. Describes national and local health disparities. Identifies strategies to build a culturally inclusive community and describes how to use Culture Vision.
  • Transgender and LGB Patients: Addressing Disparities and Health Care Needs
    (Length 1hr) - This presentation provides an overview of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) terms and concepts. It addresses the health disparities that LGBTQ patients face due to societal stigma, discrimination, and denial of their civil and human rights. Finally, it shares how Strong Memorial Hospital is working to alleviate these disparities and improve the care of LGBTQ patients.
  • Understanding and Responding to Micro-aggressions and Bias to Ensure an Inclusive Learning and Work Environment - (Interactive Workshop
    (Length: 90 minutes - 3 hours)​ - This workshop uses Forum Theatre to help facilitate cultural change by providing real-life dramatizations of micro-aggression and explicit bias performed by actors. The audience is invited to improvise alternative solutions to address the micro-aggression or bias that is witnessed. This hands-on workshop allows attendees to practice how to respond and speak up if they witness micro-aggressions or explicit bias.

2019-2020 Diversity Seminar Series

We welcome the participation of all faculty, residents, fellows, staff and students at all of the Diversity Seminar Series' events. Resources from the workshops and lectures, including slides and handouts, can be accessed at the permission of the presenters through our Seminar/Workshop Resources page.
