In the Department of Speech Pathology (a division of the Department of Otolaryngology) the role of the speech-language pathologist is to assess communication and swallowing impairments, diagnose the severity of the problems, and implement a treatment plan to help individuals regain as much of their communication and swallowing skills as possible.
Innovative and comprehensive diagnostic, rehabilitative, and counseling services are made available to patients who suffer from speech, language, cognition, and/or swallowing impairments. Treatment modalities may include individual therapy, computer-assisted treatment, and augmented communication assistance training.
