Flu Restrictions

Our primary goal at St. James Hospital is to provide the best quality of care in an environment that is safe for your loved ones. To protect our patients, we must manage their exposure to illnesses that are easily spread, such as the flu.

We carefully monitor flu activity levels in the hospital and the community. When certain thresholds are met, we must take action to halt the spread and limit the number of visitors allowed in our patient areas.

Effective at 8 a.m. on January 3rd 2020, we ask that:

  • No more than two visitors may be present in a patient’s room at any time
  • No one under the age of 14 are permitted to visit the hospital.
  • No visitors with symptoms of fever, cough, body aches, or a sore throat; they may not visit until symptom-free for 24 hours.

We certainly understand the desire to be with patients and the benefits your presence and support contribute. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause. Our close monitoring of influenza activity will continue, and we’ll look to return to regular visiting practices as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

Your understanding and cooperation during this time is tremendously appreciated. And we encourage you to be prepared for flu season by getting an influenza vaccination through your primary care provider, pharmacy, or other venue.
