Another Successful Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign
Last month we participated in the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign in many ways. In partnership with Starbridge and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) chapter at URMC, we hosted an art show featuring art by people with disabilities in the Rochester community. It was a big hit! By hosting it in Café 601, we were able to accommodate over 200 faculty, staff, and community members signing the pledge to end the use of the word ‘retarded’ in their vocabulary.
We also participated in an event hosted by the City of Rochester at City Hall. Mayor Lovely Warren led the way by declaring March 1 the Day to End the R-word in Rochester. The Project SEARCH® program at the City of Rochester joined the mayor on a special PSA project explaining the rationale behind the campaign. We are so proud of the City of Rochester Project SEARCH class of 2017 for their efforts to speak up and join this campaign in a big way.
Thanks to the Golisano Foundation for making the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign in Rochester such a tremendous success year after year.
The City of Rochester Project SEARCH program is accepting applications for the 2017 - 2018 school year. For more information email Kaitlyn Richardson.
