Disability Policy Seminar Recap
On March 19, fifteen LEND fellows and four UCEDD staff headed to Washington, D.C., for the 2017 Disability Policy Seminar. This seminar brought together 1,000 self-advocates, experts, and professionals from across the country to learn about policies and legislation related to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The first few days, our group attended informative sessions from experts in the field and learned about key policy issues impacting children and adults with IDD at a federal level. On Wednesday, the group headed to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress representing Upstate NY. We educated them about the great work being done in Upstate NY through the UCEDD and LEND program at the University of Rochester Medical Center, and described the importance of protecting policies related to IDD.
