This webinar will expand on information about common issues and concerns related to puberty in pre-teens and teens with autism spectrum disorder and other related intellectual disabilities. Educational, behavioral, and medical strategies and interventions will be reviewed. This webinar is appropriate for parents/caregivers and schools and community professionals.

Parent Stress Management Program

The RRCASD will be hosting a Parent Stress Management Program this Spring. This is a series of 6, 2-hour small-group on-site sessions that focuses on in-the-moment strategies to reduce stress using mindfulness. Mindfulness focuses on acceptance and involves learning ways to take control of your mind instead of letting your thoughts run away with you. Sessions will involve mindful meditation and brief movement practice (e.g., stretching, walking). Meetings will be held on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for 6 weeks, 3/1/17 - 4/5/17, in the University of Rochester’s Saunders Research Building. Parking passes will be provided. To participate in this program you must have a child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (any age) and be able to attend and participate in all 6 sessions. Seating is limited to 10 participants. Register Now!

Job Club

The RRCASD, in collaboration with SCDDs Employment Program, will be facilitating a Job Club for individuals 18+ years old with autism spectrum disorder who are looking for employment and living in the Rochester area. The club will provide a network for social and technical support with skills development in: setting goals, creating resumes, practicing interview skills, targeting jobs, and more. Learnings will be delivered through group training. Participants will meet monthly in-person at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Those interested in joining may email the RRCASD or call (585) 275-6752.

Community Professionals Wanted

The RRCASD is developing a curriculum and training designed to increase and support the creation of inclusive recreation and leisure programs. The project team is looking for community professionals to serve on a Recreation Advisory Committee.
