Health Disparities Update
We continue our work to improve health care access and quality for people across the lifespan with IDD in our area. This year’s LEND fellows are analyzing factors affecting emergency health and oral health services for people with IDD using data from our electronic medical record. They are also studying the impact of autism spectrum disorder on individuals and families, and how developmental challenges are identified in refugee populations. We hope to identify statewide data to compare health access and status of people with IDD with those without, to support advocacy efforts to achieve “Medically Underserved Population” status for people with IDD.
Our Special Olympics Team Trainer project, funded by Special Hope Foundation, matches medical and dental trainees with Special Olympics teams to improve health and wellness.
