Finger Lakes Health at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva (Adult Project SEARCH)

Project Search® at Geneva General Hospital has been running since 2012. It serves young adults with varying intellectual and developmental disabilities. The hospital is a 132-bed general acute care hospital located in Geneva, NY. The Project SEARCH site started with 8 internship locations and has now doubled to 16. Finger Lakes Health has hired 5 graduates, naming one of them Employee of the Year in 2014. In order to meet the needs and interests of the interns, 2 internship sites have been developed in the community.

Types of Internships

  • Nutritional services: porter, cold food prep, tray line, dietary hostess
  • Central stores: distribution aid
  • Human resources: file clerk
  • Housekeeping: housekeeping aide, laundry assistant
  • Long-term care: recreation assistant, lunch assistant
  • Child Care Center: teacher's aide
  • Adult day: recreation assistant
  • Environmental services: grounds
  • Patient transport: transporter
  • Olympia Sports: sales associate
  • Uncle Joe's: hostess, pizza maker

Typical Daily Schedule

Interns arrive at 8:30 a.m. for 45 minutes of job training before heading to their internships. At 1:45 p.m., interns attend Job Club. From 2:00 p.m. to dismissal at 2:45 p.m., interns perform skill building activities (social skills, interviewing skills, resume writing, job searches, etc.).
