For women 22 years of age and older who are interested in cosmetic breast augmentation, the FDA has recently approved a new option: silicone gel-filled breast implants. Because they're made of silicone, these implants hold their shape better, are softer and look more natural.
In addition to offering traditional saline implants, The Strong Specialists in Plastic Surgery utilize silicone implants that are manufactured by Mentor and Allergan. Both companies offer products of varying shapes, sizes and gel consistency. An incision of approximately two inches is required to insert silicone gel-filled implants. Patients are also requested to participate in follow-up studies and have regular MRIs.
