Cytogenetics
The UR Medicine Cytogenetics Laboratory is a full service laboratory that provides constitutional and neoplastic analysis of blood, bone marrow, amniotic fluid, chorionic villus, solid tissue, and tumor specimens using conventional chromosome G-banding and molecular techniques.
A complete library of commercially available FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) probes is available to detect genetic abnormalities that may be acquired in the cancer patient or to diagnose constitutional abnormalities such as micro-deletion syndromes.
The laboratory also offers cell culture services for specialized metabolic and molecular testing.
The Cytogenetics Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and Children’s Oncology Group (COG).
