Research Centers in Minority Institutions Scholar Exchange

The UR CTSI collaborates with the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Summer Scholars Program to offer research training to students at Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) who are underrepresented in the biomedical and health sciences. Students who apply through our RCMI Scholarly Exchange will benefit from the programming and educational opportunities organized by the Summer Scholars Program, as well as networking opportunities, educational resources, and workshops offered by the UR CTSI.

Goals

The Summer Scholars program is a 10-week research intensive program that includes working under the direct mentorship of a faculty member and participating in research/educational seminars and presentations on applying to graduate school and career development. Students who apply through our RCMI Scholarly Exchange will benefit from the programming and educational opportunities organized by the Summer Scholars Program, as well as opportunities to network with UR CTSI-affiliated faculty, staff and trainees, access our educational resources, and attend workshops. Review a list of research faculty who lead translational research programs and who serve as mentors for UR CTSI trainees.

This program aligns with the goals of the RCMI program, which is supported by the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities and aims to foster the next generation of researchers from underrepresented populations.

Eligibility

The UR CTSI welcomes applications from undergraduate students at RCMIs. We particularly encourage students who aspire to a career as a clinician-scientist or are interested in pursuing a PhD in Translational Biomedical Sciences or Public Health Sciences to apply.

Applicants must be:

• Undergraduates from RCMIs
• US citizens, permanent resident aliens, or students with current F1 visas from their host institutions in the United States
• Matriculated college sophomores or juniors with strong academic backgrounds (must have a GPA of at least 2.5)
