During his residency at the University of Rochester, he selected a focus in skull base surgery, complex spine, and deep brain stimulation. Beyond his general neurosurgical practice, Dr. Wensel specializes in spine surgery as well as functional/stereotactic surgery. His spine surgery focus includes spine trauma, minimally invasive techniques for degenerative disease, and tumor.

His functional/stereotactic-focused neurosurgery practice includes deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease, dystonia and tremor, as well as epilepsy. In addition, he performs other stereotactic surgery techniques and robot-assisted surgery.

In my [...] years on this earth, I have never left a doctor's office in tears. Dr. Wensel was incredibly dismissive of my tumor symptoms that, at times, are unbearable. He did not listen to me. [...] I have never, ever had such a poor experience.
