Research Assistant Opportunities

Undergraduate students will have the opportunity to gain experience in clinical research trials with apparently healthy, cancer patients and other diseased populations. Listed below are some of the opportunities:

  • Sub-maximal and maximal VO2 max assessments
  • Resting energy expenditure assessments
  • Metabolic cart data collection and interpretation
  • Muscular strength testing
  • Body composition assessments: bioelectric impedance, skinfold, and circumference
  • Home-based exercise clinical trials
  • Home-based yoga clinical trials
  • Actigraphy and wearable technology
  • Exercise leadership and exercise prescriptions

PEAK Human Performance Science Clinical Research Lab provides a unique opportunity to work with various patients involved in clinical research. Home-based exercise helps to manage symptoms of fatigue, pain, depression, cognitive impairment, and low quality of life often found in cancer patients undergoing treatment and in survivors post-treatment. In the PEAK Lab, you will have an incredible opportunity to conduct assessments and encourage physical activity in many populations.

Internship

Student interns can gain valuable experience in Physical Activity and Cancer Research while maintaining data for supportive cancer care clinical trials. Students can expect 30-40 hours/week for a culmination of approximately 320-350 hours. You must be a full-time, enrolled student to apply.

Opportunities include patient assessment, calibrating/cleaning/maintaining equipment, exercise prescription and leadership, and data management. Clerical skills such as data review and input, auditing electronic databases, word processing, copying, filing, and correspondence. Medline and library literature searches.

Student Employment -Technical Assistant II

Student employees can gain valuable work experience in Physical Activity and Cancer Research while maintaining data for supportive cancer care clinical trials. Students can expect 12-20 hours/week for employment. Due to the training involved a two-semester minimum commitment is required. You must be a full-time, enrolled student to apply.
