Obstetric Course Topic: PRENATAL CARE

Article 1: FOLIC ACID IN WOMEN’S HEALTH

In addition to the overarching learning objectives, upon completion, the learner also will be able to:

  • Discuss how folic acid functions in the body.
  • List sources of folic acid in the diet and the role of food fortification in the prevention of birth defects. 
  • Identify recommended supplementation levels of folic acid.
  • Interpret the fetal heart rate tracing. (Fetal Monitoring participants only)

Article 2: PERINATAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH FOCUSING ON LEAD

In addition to the overarching learning objectives, upon completion, the learner also will be able to:

  • State the 2012 CDC reference blood lead level.
  • List health impacts of perinatal exposure to lead.
  • Summarize key messages to share with pregnant women about lead poisoning prevention.
  • Interpret the fetal heart rate tracing. (Fetal Monitoring participants only)
 

Gynecology Course Topic: PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME AND PREMENSTRUAL DYSPHORIC DISORDER: DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

In addition to the overarching learning objectives, upon completion, the learner also will be able to:

  • Explain the pathophysiology underlying premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
  • List criteria and tools used for the diagnosis of premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
  • Describe treatments available for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

2015 Piloters Wanted!

Want to try something new? Add to your professional portfolio? Be part of the periFACTS® team?

We are offering our participants the opportunity to pilot the 2015 periFACTS® program! We welcome all levels of nursing experience-from the novice to the expert.

PeriFACTS® uses the piloting to determine the value of contact hour credit to be awarded for each article/test segment. You are eligible to pilot the Obstetric and Fetal Monitoring course (OBEFM) and/or the Gynecology (GYN) course.

Pilot Details:
•  This is a one-year opportunity starting in November 2014 that pilots the January 2015 topics.
•  The pilot is completed at least one month prior to the segment posting on the Learning Management System (LMS).
•  We ask that you participate in at least 10 out of the 12 monthly segments.
•  Participants will receive the same contact hour credit as non-piloting participants.
•  Participants will be acknowledged as a periFACTS® contributor on our LMS and will receive a certificate of participation.
