Journey to Mbarara - March 2011
In March 2011, Dr. Woods joined colleagues from UCLA and the not-for-profit, Medicine for Humanity, to journey to Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Mbarara, Uganda, to help develop on site and global long-distance learning in obstetrics and gynecology. The video and photos below help chronicle his trip.
Visit our YouTube channel, periFACTS YouTube Channel, for videos from our trip to Uganda.
In March 2011 I joined colleagues from UCLA and the not-for-profit, Medicine for Humanity, to journey to Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Mbarara, Uganda, to help develop on site and global long-distance learning in obstetrics and gynecology. My motivation was to create web-based obstetric learning centers in Uganda for periFACTS®, and to demonstrate how periFACTS® might provide sustainable obstetric education for the faculty, nurses and residents. I hope you enjoy this video chronicling my trip. -Dr. James Woods
At the University Hospital there are more than 7,000 babies delivered each year, with 75% of deliveries performed by 16 midwives.
Dr. Woods helps instruct a group of medical students in the University simulation skills lab where, with a mannequin, they reviewed shoulder dystocia, breech delivery, and also observed one instructor using a beef heart as a simulated uterus to demonstrate how to perform and repair a transverse uterine incision.
"I love periFACTS®!"
