URMC Community Advisory Council

The Community Advisory Council (CAC) was created in 2006 to represent the voice of the community and guide and support the four missions of the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC):

  • Education
  • Research
  • Patient Care
  • Community Health

Andrew Doniger, MD, MPH, Director of the Monroe County Department of Public Health, serves as Chair, and Wade Norwood, Director of Community Engagement at the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency, serves as Vice Chair of the CAC.

Thirty-one community and academic members comprise the CAC, and eighteen community-based organizations, including health and social service agencies, the faith community, local government, the city school district, and media are represented.

The functions of the CAC are to:

  • Act as a resource to URMC to strengthen community partnerships with an aim to reduce disparities and improve access to health care and services
  • Contribute to the assessment and identification of community health-related priorities
  • Promote constituent engagement in community health improvement initiatives
  • Review community-engaged projects and research, as requested

The CAC serves in an advisory capacity to the:

  • University of Rochester Medical Center
  • Center for Community Health
  • URMC Clinical and Translational Science Institute
  • Monroe County effort on the National Children’s Study
  • Committee providing input for URMC educational programs in public health

In the past six years, the CAC has contributed to building an infrastructure for the URMC’s community engagement activities, and produced the following documents, which serve as a resource to researchers conducting community-based research:
