The Flaum Eye Institute is the region’s most comprehensive resource for the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. Our dedicated team of subspecialists include some of the most noted clinicians in their fields of expertise. We gladly treat the most routine conditions as well as provide care for the most complex of diseases. All of these services are available under one roof at the University of Rochester Medical Center, allowing for a unique multidisciplinary approach to patient care. And many of our services are available at our expanding network of satellite locations spanning from Batavia to Geneva, offering expert care that is close to home.

All this expertise and technology is housed in a soothing and inviting environment unique to most large academic medical centers. From free curbside parking, to our patient education and waiting nooks, to our friendly optical shop and warm staff, we’re designed from the ground up to make your visit with us a pleasant one. We also offer same day and after hours urgent eye care.
As the only eye institute in the region, we're committed to providing state-of-the-art eye care for common and complex vision problems right in Upstate New York.
What Sets Us Apart?
Our facility includes our own ambulatory surgery center located on the second floor of Strong Memorial Hospital, just below the Eye Institute’s faculty practice clinic. Equipped with the region’s most up-to-date surgical equipment, we are able to routinely perform complex procedures that were once referred to eye care centers hundreds of miles away, saving you time and keeping you close to home. Many routine surgeries can also be performed at our suburban ambulatory surgery center, in our Brockport surgery center, or in Geneva for your convenience.
In addition, our suite of diagnostic equipment is second to none in the region and throughout the nation. In some cases, patients needing specialized imaging may be referred to our translational research enterprise. Here our scientists and clinicians are constantly developing new instrumentation that may be the first of its kind. All is available to ensure the most thorough and accurate diagnosis. Often, clinical trials and new treatments are tested at the Flaum Eye Institute first.
