UR Medicine's Treatments for Maxillofacial (Facial) Trauma
We may do 3D Reconstruction Imaging to evaluate facial trauma. Using a special algorithm called maximal intensity projection we can create a semi-transparent image of the facial structure. This technique also eliminates practically all artifacts usually seen in CT scans where the patient has metallic dental fillings.
The goal of your treatment will be to restore the function and appearance of your face or jaws, and it will depend on the kind of injury you have.
Treatments facial tears or crush injuries:
Microvascular reconstructive surgery to repair soft tissue areas that have been cut or torn while reestablishing nerve connections and blood flow.
Treatments for facial fractures:
- Resetting of broken bones manually, without surgery
- Surgery to align broken bones in the face
- Wiring of a fractured jaw to stabilize it as the bone heals
- Bone or skin grafts
- Repair using titanium hardware
Our team of experts will collaborate with providers in dentistry, rhinoplasty, ophthalmology, and more to help you look and feel your best after facial trauma
