Certified Diabetes Educators

Laura McNamara, RD, CDE
Laura McNamara, RD, CDE is a nutrition educator at the Diabetes HealthSource. She has a Bachelors Degree in Dietetics from the State University College at Buffalo, and became certified in diabetes education in 1990. She has experience in nutrition counseling, cardiac rehab, and an interest in sports nutrition. Laura enjoys empowering clients to work on behavioral change to improve their health.

Sally C. Nordquist, R.N., C.D.E., M.S.Ed.
Sally is the certified diabetes nurse educator, as well as the Program Coordinator at the Diabetes HealthSource. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from SUNY at Utica/Rome. In 1992, she received a Master’s Degree in Community Health Education from SUNY at Brockport.
Sally has been certified in diabetes education since 1994. She was previously certified in nephrology nursing & she has strong dialysis background. She is also a certified pump trainer and is proficient with CGMS (continuous glucose monitoring system). Sally’s special interests include patient education and assisting clients with behavior change.

Celia Topping, M.N.S., R.D., C.D.E., C.D.N.
Celia Topping is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. At the Diabetes HealthSource, she teaches patients how to manage their diabetes through nutrition and activity levels. She also leads classes on Skills for Managing Type 2 Diabetes at Preferred Care. Celia received her Bachelor's degree in Dietetics at McGill University, Canada, and a Master's degree in Nutritional Science from Cornell University. Her past experience includes work at the Nutrition/Weight Management Center at the University of Rochester and 15-year author of a Nutrition column for the D&C newspaper. She has taught nutrition at the Rochester Institute of Technology, SUNY College at Brockport, and the University Of Rochester School Of Nursing. Celia is past president of the Genesee Dietetic Association and served as spokesperson for the New York State Dietetic Association.

Sandy Anderson, RN
Sandy has been a nurse educator at Diabetes Healthsource since January 2006. She is presently pursuing her Certification in Diabetes Education. She also works part-time as a Nurse Leader on West 7; an inpatient unit at Highland Hospital. She has worked in that setting for 19 years.
Educational background included RN from Finger Lakes Community College. She is presently taking classes at the University of Rochester to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. In 2007 she became a Clinical Certified Aromatherapy Practioner. Interests include: patient education, holistic nursing care; including being a student of healing touch , and using aromatherapy in the health care setting.

Susan Calcagno RD, MS, CDE
Susan, has been a practicing Certified Diabetes Educator in nutrition for the past 7 years.
She had practiced as a CDE for an international pharmaceutical company.Previous to that position she was the Nutritionist-Diabetes Educator for the Women’s Health Out Patient Department at Strong Memorial Hospital. She has been a practicing nutritionist for over 30 years.
