Billing and Insurance
About Your Hospital Bill
Insurance coverage for hospital services varies between insurance companies and types of policies. There may be services that your insurance does not cover, or charges that you are required to pay for in part. We will submit your insurance claim at the time of your discharge. We allow 45 days for your insurance company to make a payment. Once we receive the insurance payment, we will send you a bill in the mail for any hospital services that were not covered by your insurance company.
-
If you are scheduled for surgery or other medical procedure, call your insurance company to check on your coverage. Ask for any required authorizations for the procedure and for pre-surgical testing if needed. Make sure we have your current mailing address when you check-in for your procedure.
-
If you are scheduled for a procedure that is not covered by insurance, call the Patient Accounts Office to discuss payment options.
-
Note: You may also receive bills from physicians who treat you while you are a hospital patient. These professional fees are billed separately and will not be included on your hospital bill.

Charity Care Program
Highland Hospital's Charity Care Program helps patients who are uninsured or underinsured. The assistance applies to families at a qualifying income level based on the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. In addition, those who have exhausted their insurance benefits, exceeded financial eligibility criteria, face extraordinary medical costs, or who have other unique circumstances may be considered for Charity Care approval at the hospital's discretion. Call us to check your eligibility for Charity Care.
