Neural Control of Dexterous Finger Movements

Posted on: Thursday, January 28, 2010.

Research projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Variation in the throughput from single cortico-motoneuronal cells to electromyographic activity
  • Dimensionality reduction in the cortico-muscular system controlling the hand
  • Substitution of biomimetic multichannel intracortical microstimulation to repair deficits resulting from focal nervous system injury
  • Closed loop control of dexterous manipulation with a prosthetic hand

Specific Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Systems Neuroscience or a related discipline (e.g. Motor Control, Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, or Biomedical Engineering).
  • Previous research experience in the following is desirable:
    • chronic electrophysiological recordings from behaving animals
    • multi-electrode recording
    • video motion analysis
    • electromyography
    • MatLab programming
    • upper level training in mathematics, engineering or computer science
