SoundBuilder

Review Author: Helen_Calhoun@URMC.Rochester.edu
Platform: iOS
App or Mobile Website: App (link to App Store)
Does it require WiFi to work? No
Category: Medical
Price: Free
Special Instructions: None.
Tasks or Searches Tested: Index is organized by types of heart sounds. Reviewed content for a few different heart sound topics.
Design: This app was very easy to navigate, and the combination of interactions, text, and audio files helped to reinforce the learning of different heart sounds. The index could use a bit of style - looks like plain old HTML from the 1990's, but once into a topic, the learner finds sophisticated images and a wealth of sound files and visual waveform diagrams.
Functionality: The functionality is fairly simple, straightforward, and very effective. The tool consists of a set of learning units for heart sounds. This tool supports full learning of heart sounds through reading, seeing, and listening. The combination of mannequin diagrams, visual waveform diagrams, and sound files provided a thorough perspective.
Content: From a layperson's perspective, this appears to be a complete reference and tool for learning heart sounds. Excellent in that it is comprehensive.
Other Comments: If I were a student learning heart sounds, I would start here! The large format iPad version is especially appealing, and the complete set of audio files is impressive.
