Welcome to the Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program at the

University of Rochester Medical Center

Richard M. Pomerantz, M.D.
Director, Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program
Professor of Medicine

Clinical Chief, Cardiology Division

Welcome to the University of Rochester Cardiology Division and the Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program.  The program is an ACGME accredited program that is patterned after the recommendations of the Bethesda Conference.  Our curriculum expectations and learning objectives correspond to the updated COCATs (ACC guidelines for training in Clinical Cardiology) published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.  With over 50 full time clinical and research faculty members, the cardiovascular faculty of the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Memorial Hospital are committed to seeing that fellows in the program receive the highest caliber training to prepare them for practice, teaching, and research careers.

We currently have 15 approved, filled ACGME positions. We have seen huge growth in the services and patient volumes in Cardiology at the University over the last several years.   With this has come expansions in our existing programs as well as entirely new clinical and educational programs in Cardiovascular Disease diagnosis and therapy. This has continued to enhance the educational opportunities available for our fellow trainees to include a thriving new heart failure and cardiac transplantation program as well as expanded cardiac imaging facilities.  In addition, we have an elective rotation in Cardiac Surgery and peripheral vascular ultrasound, and have added a rotation in Cardiac MRI in July 2005, and CT Angiography in July of 2007.

I invite you to explore the links of this web page for more detailed information regarding our specific rotations, our curriculum and our current fellows, along with application information.  We will be participating again in the ERAS Application Service for recruitment in 2010 for positions with a 2011 start date.
