Men's Health Day 2009

6th Annual Men's Health Day Drew Record Crowd

Marv LevyNearly 400 men, ages 45 and up, came out September 11th to the Rochester Hyatt Regency Hotel to hear former Buffalo Bills coach and NFL Hall of Famer Marv Levy urge them to take care of their health and "stay in the game."

A solid day of interactive health and wellness information featured breakout sessions by top URMC specialists on successful aging, stroke prevention, exercise, prostate health and sexuality. The event included more than 20 stations with sponsor information, hands-on demonstrations and health screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, depression and more.

At lunch, attendees were inspired and entertained by Levy's tales about his life in sports and stories of his personal battle with prostate cancer. A true sports legend who led the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowls, Levy's talk was peppered with humor and his personal philosophy for dealing with difficulties and adversity: "Expect rejection, but expect even more strongly to overcome it."

A raffle concluded the sports-themed event. URMC Acting CEO Mark Taubman and Levy drew winning tickets that awarded lavish gift packages to two lucky winners. The packages included footballs autographed by Levy and Buffalo Bills owner, Ralph Wilson; as well as an autographed Bills jersey.
