The aim of symposium is to introduce the field of pharmacometrics and discuss the role of modeling and simulation in drug discovery and development. This symposium will provide an opportunity to hear from leaders in the field with backgrounds in industry and academia, as well as regulatory perspectives from the former head of the Division of Pharmacometrics at the Food and Drug Administration. This program should benefit individuals such as pharmacologists, clinicians, systems biologists, clinical trialists, and biostatisticians, as well as those generally interested in drug development. It is sponsored by the University of Rochester Medical Center's Center for Human Experimental Therapeutics (CHET) and University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. With increased social and regulatory pressures to reduce waste, particularly medical wastes, now is the time to understand and adopt sustainable practices for the design and manufacture of medical devices. This session included presentations from practitioners in academia and industry who shared their insights on practices that can be used to improve sustainability, as well as profitability, for new medical devices.

The School of Nursing offered a free screening of TEDMED, a three-and-a-half-day meeting of the world's most creative minds and medicine's most innovative sciences. The live event took place in Washington, D.C., but URMC students, faculty, and staff viewied the simulcast in real time in Helen Wood Hall Auditorium (1W-304). Researchers from the University of Rochester, RIT, Cornell and Clarkson displayed the innovative research they are doing and how it can help companies develop new products, processes, and services. The showcase gave university researchers the opportunity to learn about areas of interest to companies that can help guide future research. Representatives from the university technology transfer offices were on hand to discuss inventions already available for licensing. In addition, keynote speakers from leading NY State companies and development centers were on site to discuss the role of innovation in their organizations. For more information, click here.
