Electronic Grossing ManualThis manual combines touch-screen technology and text hyperlinks to provide quick and intuitive navigation through practical instructions and protocols for surgical specimen handling at the cutting bench. Pathology diagnosis begins with specimen handling. Systematic examination and adequate sampling (i.e., "gross examination") are key determinants in correct and meaningful diagnosis. Our study has shown that correct gross examination and adequate sampling also significantly reduce laboratory cost, and improve service turn-around time. Gross examination follows a set of rules and is a complex task. It is a professional skill that requires vigorous training. This web-based electronic manual for specimen gross examination provides general guidelines, recommended dictation templates, and suggested tissue sampling for each type of commonly encountered surgical specimens. The information is organized by anatomy system &. specific organ, with extensive hyperlinks to allow easy navigation and quick search for intended information.
