Research Bio
Yan Zhang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is Associate Director of Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology (Mass Spectrometry) Laboratories at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center.
Dr. Zhang completed her Clinical Chemistry Fellowship training at Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School and she is certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) with a special focus on mass spectrometry-based -omics (proteomics and metabolomics) technologies and biomarker research. In addition, she earned her B.S. summa cum laude in Microbial Engineering and her M.E. in Biochemical Engineering in China.
Her research interests are in clinical applications of mass spectrometry, transitioning of late phase discovery and -omics biomarkers to clinical services, and biomarker discovery for the early diagnosis of disease and prognosis using -omics technologies.
Her administrative interests encompass laboratory management, leadership development, and employee engagement.
