Dr. Denzil Harris is a proud native of Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Princeton University in 2013, with a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, certificate in African American Studies and coursework in Chinese language. After completing clinical research based in telemedicine and Parkinson disease, with the Center for Health + Technology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, he matriculated at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he earned his MD along with completion of the pathway in Medical Humanities in 2019. Dr. Harris then returned to New York City, completing his residency in Internal Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital Center, and the VA New York Harbor Health Care System in 2022. After residency, he completed fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center in 2023. He is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Harris works with both the Division of Hospital Medicine and Division of Palliative Care. He has many professional interests, some of which include improving communication with and education of hospitalized patients regarding their medical conditions, and facilitating safe and effective transitions of patients out of the hospital and back to the ambulatory setting. He is also deeply interested in health equity, and hopes to understand how to best ally with the local Rochester community to improve knowledge of—and access to—palliative care services.
