GI, Endoscopy Services Expand at
URMC recently opened upstate New York’s largest hospital-affiliated ambulatory gastroenterology center, expanding access to care with the addition of new faculty and enhancing services with the area’s most advanced endoscopic technology.
The state-of-the-art URMC Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy Center, located on the second floor of the URMC Surgery Center at 180 Sawgrass Drive in Brighton, is a 10,000-square-foot, custom-designed center featuring four endoscopy rooms, 12 private admitting/recovery bays, 12 examination rooms and spacious waiting rooms designed to enhance patient comfort.
“The new ambulatory endoscopy center, along with talented faculty members joining our expert team, will no doubt increase capacity and access for our community and referring providers,” said Vivek Kaul, M.D., F.A.C.G., acting chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
The Division recruited three new specialists in response to the region’s growing demand for gastroenterology services. They are:
- Thomas Park, M.D., who provides general gastroenterology services;
- Gopal Ramaraju, M.D., a specialist in hepatology and liver transplant;
- Nuri Ozden, M.D., an expert in advanced endoscopy and liver diseases.
The new center’s endoscopy suites boast the latest high-definition video endoscopes and LCD monitors, carbon dioxide insufflation (instead of air), a wi-fi network and an electronic medical record system, making it a truly modern experience for both patients and providers. It enhances an already-busy gastroenterology practice, which continues to offer advanced and complex interventional endoscopy procedures, such as ERCP, EUS and complex therapeutic endoscopy, in its hospital-based location at Strong Memorial’s Ambulatory Care Facility.
The new center significantly improves access and scheduling times for procedures and office consultations, averaging less than 10 days.
“Blending high-tech innovation with patient-friendly accessibility, the center’s convenient location, free parking and comfortable, modern amenities are attractive to patients who must undergo general endoscopy, screening colonoscopy, or come in for office consultations,” Kaul said.
