Neurology Care Expands to Southern Tier with
Big Flats Office

URMC recently opened a new office in Big Flats to offer comprehensive neurology, neurosurgery, and gait and balance care.

Neurologist Richard Welles, M.D., and geriatrician Linda Welles, M.D., have joined the Medical Center’s newly formed Southern Tier Neuromedicine to serve the growing need for specialized care for spine, stroke and neuroendocrine conditions.

The husband-and-wife team has practiced in the Southern Tier for many years prior to joining the URMC faculty’s Rochester Neurosurgery Partners, including Neurosurgery chair Webster H. Pilcher, M.D., Ph.D., G. Edward Vates, M.D., Ph.D., Robert Replogel, M.D., and Andrew Wensel, M.D.

“This is an extension of our services in Corning and brings the specialists closer to patients in their hometowns, rather than having them travel long distances for multidisciplinary care,” said Pilcher.

The team works closely with local health care providers to keep patients close to home and uses imaging technology to provide consultations remotely. If necessary, patients can travel to Rochester to access the Medical Center’s technology, including computer-assisted image guidance, functional MRI and awake brain mapping.

Located near I-86/Route 17 at 84 Canal St., the new office is part of a network of satellites including Hornell, Dansville, Geneseo, Canandaigua, Clifton Springs, Newark, Geneva, Auburn and Batavia.
