Smoke FREE Patient & Visitor Information
As one of the leading health care institutions in Upstate New York, it is only fitting that we take steps to eliminate the leading cause of preventable death and disability in the United States on our campus. Banning all smoking in our buildings and on our grounds sends a clear message that good health and health care do not include smoking or the use of other tobacco products.
For our patients and their family members, we recognize this policy may lead to some uncomfortable situations. It is our goal to do all we can to minimize this by:
- Clearly stating our policy and delineating our Smoke FREE perimeter.
- Providing inpatients with nicotine replacement therapy treatments to those who consent. In addition, inpatients who indicate that they wish to stop smoking will receive brief counseling and a list of available community resources.
- Making over-the-counter nicotine replacement products, such as gum and lozenges, conveniently available for purchase at cost throughout the Medical Center, including at:
- The Strong Outpatient Pharmacy (off the main hospital lobby): Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
- The Gift Shop (off the main hospital lobby): Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday, 11:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
