(ULAB08113) A Laboratory Study in Ambulatory Cancer Patients at Low or Intermediate Risk for Venous Thromboembolism.

PurposeSome newly diagnosed cancer patients are more likely to develop blood clots, also known as venous thromboembolism (VTE). We are currently conducting a study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of prophylaxis in a high-risk subgroup of cancer patients. The purpose of the study is to enroll patients deemed low-risk or intermediate-risk for VTE to serve as a control group and to conduct laboratory studies. You have been identified as having a low or intermediate risk for blood clots. This study involves a one time blood draw which will be used to study levels of various markers that may help predict how often a person might develop a blood clot, this will be drawn prior to the first chemotherapy treatment. Your chart and the diagnostic biopsy material, if available, will be reviewed.
