Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Make Appointments & Get Care

Overview

Facial plastic surgery is a good option for people who want to reduce the signs of aging and rejuvenate their face to create a more youthful appearance. We perform facial cosmetic surgery to reshape structures in the head and neck—usually the nose, ears, chin, cheekbones, and neckline.

Using the most advanced techniques, our surgeons cover a full range of cosmetic procedures, such as:

Brow Lift/Forehead Lift — surgery that removes or softens the frown lines between your eyebrows and the horizontal lines and furrows across your forehead.

Facelift (Rhytidectomy) — surgery that can make the face look more youthful by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and tightening the skin of your face and neck.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) — used to improve the appearance of your eyelids by removing excess fat and drooping skin from your upper eyelids and tightening the skin of your lower eyelids.

Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty) — changes the shape of the chin by either moving part of the bone forward or adding an implant (to build up a "weak jaw", called "chin augmentation") or by removing part of the bone (to reduce a "jutting jaw," called "chin reduction").

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty) — surgery that reshapes the nose, either to correct breathing problems or for cosmetic purposes. It can change the width of your nose, reshape the bridge or tip of the nose, or change the angle between your nose and upper lip.

UR Medicine's Approach

UR Medicine providers in the departments Otolaryngology and Plastic Surgery offer a full spectrum of cosmetic surgical procedures suitable for individuals looking for a more significant change to their appearance. Surgery will also usually require a longer recovery than non-surgical procedures.

During your first consultation, your doctor will ask you about your expectations, your general health and any specific conditions that might interfere with surgery. The doctor will:

  • Examine your facial structure, including skin texture, color and elasticity, and the underlying bone
  • Discuss how your face can be changed
  • Explain the details of the procedure
  • Develop a plan for surgery and recovery with you

You need to have a clear idea of why you want the surgery and a realistic idea of what you hope to look like after it. And you need to discuss these honestly with your surgeon.

Many of our procedures are outpatient procedures. Depending on your surgical plan, you may receive a local anesthesia, in which you'll be sedated and the area around the surgical site will be numbed, or a general anesthesia, which means you'll be asleep during the procedure.

Depending on your procedure, healing can be slow and gradual, and sometimes the results of the surgery aren't apparent for many months.

What Sets Us Apart?

Our highly skilled, board-certified surgeons are trained in cosmetic facial procedures, and many are fellowship-trained. They have the expertise necessary to ensure you have a safe procedure and achieve the results you want.

Our specialists perform hundreds of procedures and surgeries every year, so patient care is always in the hands of well-practiced experts. As part of the University of Rochester Medical Center, our physicians are exposed to more complex conditions and unusual complications than most physicians in the area.

We are a joint effort between two specialty departments: Otolaryngology (ENT) and Plastic Surgery. Our physicians work collaboratively to draw on a diverse set of skills and give patients comprehensive care.

Many of our surgeons are teachers and conduct research, so they are up-to-date on the latest findings and techniques in their field.
