Our Learning Environment

Welcome to the University of Rochester Graduate Medical Education website. Rochester offers 95+ ACGME-accredited programs across a broad spectrum of surgical, medical, and hospital disciplines delivered through the region's only level 1 tertiary trauma center. The Medical Center is nationally ranked in many specialties and is the only academic medical center in the Greater Rochester area, serving as a tertiary and quaternary referral center for Western and Central New York and beyond. Our 900+ residents and fellows across these programs place URMC in the top 5% of sponsoring institutions by size in the nation. We graduate an average of 250 trainees each year into a myriad of very successful careers.

The School of Medicine & Dentistry is highly ranked in both research and primary care and also provides many opportunities for our trainees to become extensively involved in community service on campus and in the community. Nestled in the scenic Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, Rochester is just an hour from two natural wonders—Niagara Falls and Letchworth State Park, known as the “Grand Canyon of the East.”

Lifelong learners. Rooted in mentorship. Shaped by Rochester.

Watch how our faculty and trainees are making a difference through strong mentorship and a shared sense of purpose.
