Dawling A. Dionisio Santos is a PGY-4 resident in Adult Neurology. He studied Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Puerto Rico. He then went through the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Rochester and obtained a Ph.D. in Neuroscience where he studied the role of neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease. In his free time, Dawling enjoys reading neuroscience non-fiction, exploring the Adirondacks region with his wife, and playing Pokemon Go.

April Henry is a PGY-4 resident in Adult Neurology who attended Penn State College of Medicine for her MD and Masters in Education. She grew up in Florida, where She studied biology at the University of North Florida and received her Bachelors of Science. Her interests outside of medicine are spending time with her two adorable dogs, reading non-medical literature, and ice skating. She is also interested in medical education and academic medicine.

Christopher Higginbotham is a PGY-4 resident in Adult Neurology who attended Stony Brook University School of Medicine on Long Island, NY after studying Biology and History at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up hiking, backpacking, and skiing in the Pacific Northwest, and still continues that exploration through the Northeast U.S. when time permits. In shorter runs of free time, he enjoys playing tennis, squash, reading, cooking, and the continued exploration of biology, astronomy, history, and geopolitics. He has growing interests in teaching, palliative care, vascular neurology, and neuro intensive care.

Thomas Johnson is a PGY-4 resident in Adult Neurology. Thomas is originally from Vancouver, Canada, where he attended the University of British Columbia. He then moved to Calgary, Canada, where he completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with a Specialization in Medical Imaging in 2017. Continuing his eastward march, he attended the University of Rochester for medical school, obtaining his M.D. in 2021. His academic interests include bedside neuroimaging modalities and their use in the intensive care unit, engineering in neurology and cerebrovascular pathophysiology in traumatic brain injury. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and corgi pup, cycling, skiing and playing guitar.

Stephen Powell is a PGY-4 resident in Adult Neurology. He attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he earned his MD with Distinction in Community Health. At the University of Rochester, he studied Brain & Cognitive Sciences (focusing on psycholinguistics) and Biology, minored in Psychology and American Sign Language, and spent an additional year in their Take 5 program exploring African Economic Development. Originally from a farm in south-central Pennsylvania, Stephen celebrates Fastnacht Day and will be impressed if you pronounce “Lancaster” correctly. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys juggling, social dancing, board games, reading, and spending time with his wife and their two cats — Mika and Katara. His academic interests include headache medicine and general neurology, Deaf health, medical education, and rural access to neurologic care.

Jennifer Purks is a PGY-4 resident in Adult Neurology. She graduated from Georgetown School of Medicine, where she completed a Health Justice Track. She garnered a Bachelor’s of Science from Georgetown University in Biology of Global Health and minored in Mathematics. Between her degrees she worked for three years as the Program Manager of Clinical Trials at the Georgetown Medstar Huntington Disease Care, Education, and Research Center. Jen originally hails from Bedford, MA, a small town outside Boston. In her free time, Jen enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, hiking, rock climbing, playing tennis, swimming, dancing, ice skating, and the Red Sox. Her clinical interests include patient reported outcomes, health justice advocacy, regulatory science, drug development, and movement disorders.

Prior to medical school, Anna attended the University of Rochester where she double-majored in Neuroscience and Spanish with a Clinical Psychology minor. Anna is interested in geriatric neurology, neuropalliative care, research, and teaching. Namita Patel is a PGY-3 resident in Adult Neurology. She was born in India and raised in Toronto, Canada. She graduated with High Distinction from the University of Toronto with a double major in Human Biology and Psychology. For the subsequent two years, she developed a passion for clinical research and scientific inquiry through a number of research positions in neuroscience, clinical psychology, geriatric psychiatry, and neurology. Then, medical training brought her to Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where she developed an interest in global health through the Acute Care and System Strengthening in Low Resource Settings (ACCESS) program. She has growing interests in neuromuscular disease, clinical research, medical education, health equity, and global health. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking, camping), trying new cuisines, cooking, painting, yoga, and HIIT workouts.

Having grown up in the Rocky Mountains, Meg enjoys exploring the outdoors with her husband, son, and lab-shepherd rescue Bilbo (Bo) Waggins. She also enjoys baking personalized birthday desserts, watching women’s rugby, and enabling her husband’s passion for complicated board games. Wade Whitt is a PGY-2 resident in adult neurology. He completed medical school at University of Rochester. Before that, he graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in public health with an emphasis in epidemiology. Throughout his time in undergraduate and medical school, Wade completed a variety of research projects both at the bench and the bedside on topics from SNARE proteins to the use of EEG as a biomarker for delirium, and most recently geriatric assessment in patients with glioblastoma. His clinical interests include neuromuscular diseases, neuro-oncology, geriatrics, and advanced care planning, although he remains open to a variety of subspecialties of neurology. Tameem Ahsan is a PGY-1 resident in Adult Neurology who graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston after completing his bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular neuroscience at Temple University in Philadelphia. While born in Canada, he grew up for the most part in the Philadelphia area. As an Eagle scout he continues to enjoy the outdoors, whether it be camping, hiking, or simply exploring new places with friends and families. Indoors, he showcases his competitive spirit through video and board games. Tameem has evolving clinical interests in neuro-intensive care, neuroscientific research, medical education, as well as palliative care.

Additionally, he participated in the Take 5 Scholars Program at the U of R where he studied the History and Culture of 20th Century America through Musical Contexts. He will be especially impressed if you are a classic rock fan and listen to Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, or U2. Andrew is originally from the Hudson Valley, thirty minutes from New York City and enjoys going to concerts, hiking, and spending time with his friends and family.
