Our Residents

A Letter from the Residents

We are so excited you are considering the Child Neurology Residency Program at the University of Rochester! As current residents, let us first say how happy we are to have chosen Rochester for our residency education.

One of the most unique aspects to this residency program is how it prioritizes resident education. In addition to the typical array of conferences, journal reviews, patient of the week discussions, we also get the opportunity to actively participate in teaching the medical school’s neuroscience course called “Mind, Brain, Behavior” to the second year medical students during our PGY-5 year. There is also opportunity to travel to Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland where we help educate third year medical students.

The neurology faculty are incredibly supportive and are tremendous teachers as well as mentors. You have the opportunity to work with nationally recognized leaders across multiple neurological subspecialties in a very patient and family-centered atmosphere. There is plenty of opportunity to gain exposure to the different subspecialties within pediatric neurology including epilepsy, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, demyelinating disorders, sleep medicine, and neuro-genetics. Many of our residents continue on to complete fellowships at University of Rochester or elsewhere in these specialties.

You will find that our program has residents that not only enjoy working together but become life long friends outside the hospital. Rochester itself has very affordable living around the hospital and also within the surrounding suburbs. Personally, we most enjoy the seasonal festivals (Liliac Festival, Corn Hill Arts Festival, East Ave Festival, Park Ave Festival, International Jazz Festival), and the outdoors activities including hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, apple picking, and wine tasting around the Finger Lakes Region. When we are not out exploring Rochester, many of us are enjoying each other’s companies at monthly wine tasting gatherings, barbecues or just for dinner!

We encourage you to join the family of Child Neurology at the University of Rochester for your residency training. We have a mixture of residents from Rochester, Buffalo, Ithaca, South Carolina and even Texas. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you, showing you more about our program and around the city. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are excited to see you on the interview trail!

Sincerely,
