Student Life
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry provides students a unique experience. The School, which opened officially in 1925, introduced the biopsychosocial model, an approach to medical education that emphasizes the importance of the patient/physician partnership, and appreciates the effects of environment, culture, and socioeconomic status on physical and mental health. Students also encounter basic and clinical sciences interwoven through all four years of medical school in the Rochester curriculum known as the Double Helix.
