Message from Steven Feldon, M.D., M.B.A
Steven E. Feldon, M.D.
Director of the Eye Institute
I invite you to attend the 57th Annual Ophthalmology Conference in Rochester, New York. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Flaum Eye Institute, we have a special program in store. Many of our guest lecturers this year will be alumni of the University of Rochester. Some did their medical training here and some did their ophthalmology residencies or sub-specialty training here. As you’ll see, all are accomplished leaders in ophthalmology or distinguishing themselves as the next generation to raise the bar in the field. In addition to our distinguished guest lecturers and our own faculty presenters, we have added another feature we hope you'll like. On Thursday March 15th, highly respected ophthalmology billing and coding expert Riva Lee Asbell will deliver a special half-day program. With the rapid changes to current regulations, diagnostic technology and the migration to e-records, you and your staff won’t want to miss out on this special session.
This year’s Snell Memorial Lecture will be given by the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute’s Gullapalli Rao, MD. As many of you know, Dr. Rao spent time at the University as a fellow then as faculty in the department of ophthalmology. He has since gone on to found the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, a world leader in international eye care and global eye health. Also returning to the University this year is Robert Osher, M.D., Chair Emeritus of the Cincinnati Eye Institute, and Clinical Professor at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Osher, who attended medical school at the University of Rochester, is one of the world’s leading authorities on phacoemulsification and the surgical management of complex disorders of the anterior segment. Also in attendance this year will be former residents and medical students including Jayakrishna Ambati, M.D. of the University of Kentucky, Jacqueline Leavitt, M.D. of the Mayo Clinic, Omesh Gupta, M.D., M.B.A.of Wills Eye Institute and Salman Ali, M.D., director of glaucoma services at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Baltimore. We hope that those of you who with fond memories of each of these speakers will welcome them back to Rochester.
I also encourage everyone attending this year’s program to join us for our annual reception immediately following Friday’s sessions. We hope this continuing tradition offers the opportunity to make new friendships and rekindle old acquaintances in an informal setting. I would also like to recognize our exhibitors and sponsors. Each year the industry participants help with our ability to bring world class experts in ophthalmology to Rochester while keeping the cost of continuing education reasonable for all. Thank you for taking time out of your busy professional and personal schedules each year to attend this event. Your continued support not only has made this conference one of the nation’s longest standing meetings, but also one of the best.
I look forward to seeing you.
