Steven E. Feldon, M.D.
Director of the Eye Institute
I invite you to attend the 58th Annual Ophthalmology Conference in Rochester, New York. This year’s program promises to be excellent as we welcome guest faculty from the top of their sub-specialties. The 58th Snell Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Joel Schuman, MD from the University of Pittsburgh. A recent winner of the Champalimaude Award for Vision Research, he noted for his key role in the development of Optical Coherence Tomography for ophthalmic diagnostics. We are all excited to hear what may be coming next as this important technology evolves. The Flaum Eye Institute Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture will be delivered by Timothy Olsen, M.D., Chairman of Ophthalmology and Director of the Emory Eye Center at Emory University. He is regarded as one of the brightest minds in AMD research as well as new techniques for retinal surgery. They will be joined by an outstanding line-up of guest lecturers as well as members of our own faculty. Our program for allied health professionals and ophthalmic technicians also features two tracks of superior topics aimed at skills-based information to improve performance in your exam, diagnostic and operating rooms.
I also encourage everyone attending this year’s program to join us for our annual reception immediately following Friday’s sessions. We hope this continuing tradition offers the opportunity to make new friendships and rekindle old acquaintances in an informal setting. I would also like to recognize our exhibitors and sponsors. Each year they help underwrite the cost to bring world class experts in ophthalmology to Rochester while keeping the cost of continuing education reasonable for all. Thank you for taking time out of your busy professional and personal schedules each year to attend. Your continued support not only has made this conference one of the nation’s longest standing meetings, but also one of the best.
I look forward to seeing you.

Steven Feldon, M.D., M.B.A.
Director of the Flaum Eye Institute
