Recruitment

Influenza/RNA Virologist Postdoctoral Position

Summary

Our laboratory is a member of the New York Influenza Center of Excellence, which is part of the NIAID Centers of Excellence in Influenza Research and Surveillance network. We have a project that collects circulating seasonal viruses from acutely infected subjects and analyzes antigenic, functional and seasonal variation in the viruses, as well as characterize the immune response at time of illness presentation and in convalescence. The postdoctoral fellow will work with a collaborative and international group of virologist and immunologist.

Ideal candidates should have training and experience in influenza/RNA virus molecular biology and virology with the ability to analyze sequence data and identify mutations, use reverse genetics to clone and generate recombinant viruses, and to perform assays that measure differences in the functionality of the virus variant genes. In addition, experience performing serological assays on influenza viruses would be highly desirable. The qualified candidate will have a well-developed ability to analyze and present data, and to prepare manuscripts for submission to peer review journals.

The position requires a PhD in a relevant field, and less than 5 years of postdoctoral experience. We encourage intellectual development through mentoring, and would support a path towards becoming an independent investigator. The position is available for 12 months initially with the possibility of renewal for one or more years, depending on the performance.
